Where Tradition and Craftsmanship Meet Timeless Divinity.

Shilpa Guru L. Radhakrishnan was born into a traditional family of sthapathis, where sculpting was not just a profession but a sacred responsibility handed down through generations. From a young age, he was immersed in the atmosphere of workshops, temple architecture, and the profound discipline of the Shilpa Shastra, observing the devotion and patience required to bring divine forms to life. His training began under senior master artisans who were deeply rooted in the bronze sculpting tradition, shaping his understanding of proportion, iconography, and the spiritual presence of each deity.

Over the decades, his work has been recognized by the Government of India and honored with the prestigious National Award, along with the esteemed Shilpa Guru title, marking him as one of the country’s leading torchbearers of this ancient craft. These recognitions are not merely awards to him, but reminders of the responsibility he carries to maintain the purity of the tradition.

For him, sculpting is an act of bhakti, a spiritual offering. He believes that each sculpture must reflect not only anatomical accuracy but also the inner life and grace of the deity it represents. His philosophy emphasizes humility, discipline, and the idea that the sculptor is only a channel, allowing the divine form to reveal itself.

His vision is to preserve and spread the authentic Chola sculpting tradition worldwide, ensuring that future generations understand both its artistic excellence and its sacred depth. Through his guidance, training of young artisans, and continued dedication to temple sculpture, he works to keep this heritage alive as a living practice,

not just a memory.

Heritage & Lineage

The tradition upheld here comes from an unbroken lineage of sthapathis, artisans who have served temples and sacred spaces for generations. This heritage is deeply connected to the classical practices of Chola bronze sculpture, where art is inseparable from devotion. Knowledge is passed directly from master to student, not only in technique, but in the discipline, humility, and spiritual responsibility required to create a divine form. Every sculpture follows the Shilpa Shastra and Agama principles, where iconometry, proportions, and ritual purity are precise and essential. This lineage ensures that the sculptures are not merely artistic works, but living embodiments of tradition, meaning, and sacred presence.

Craft Philosophy

For us, sculpting is not simply an art form, but a spiritual service. Each sculpture is approached with the understanding that it is destined to become a living presence of the divine, not just an object of worship or display. This belief places great responsibility on the sculptor. Every line, proportion, and expression must be shaped with accuracy, reverence, and inner stillness, guided by the Shilpa Shastra and by devotion. The process is a prayer in itself, where the hands work only after the mind and heart are aligned. When completed with sincerity, the sculpture is not just seen—it is felt, radiating the grace and energy of the deity it embodies.

The Workshop

Nestled in Erode and Swamimalai, the workshop is a living space of devotion and creation, where tradition continues in its purest form every day. The workshop brings together a community of skilled artisans, many of whom have trained under and alongside Shilpa Guru L. Radhakrishnan, carrying forward the discipline, patience, and reverence

required in Chola bronze sculpting.

Here, the process unfolds by hand, step by step — from shaping wax models to casting, finishing, engraving, and polishing. The environment is quiet, focused, and deeply respectful of the sacred purpose behind each sculpture. The workshop is not only a place of work, but also a space of teaching and transmission, where younger artisans learn the values of precision, humility, and spiritual intention that define this heritage.

Every sculpture that emerges from this space carries the collective dedication of the master and his workshop family, reflecting

the harmony of art, tradition, and faith.
